This is a very, very rough idea of costing, and is by no means final. There are minor details still
being worked out, but here's an idea...
Food
The normal way to approach expedition style camping is to buy ready cooked, ready to eat
meals. These are normally £3.00 - £3.50 (at a good price) for the various meals. We will
need :
- 6 Breakfasts @ £3.50 each
- 6 Dinners @ £3.50 each
- 6 Puddings @ £3.00 each
Total = £81
The Army ration packs are also available which will provide you with enough food for a 24
hour period, so basically one a day for when you're on the water, and one to split between the
first and last day for a dinner and a breakfast. These are available in a few different
varieties so you don't have to eat the same food everyday and cost around £7.99.
- 6 x 24 Hour Ration Packs @ £7.99 each
Total = £47.94
A saving of £30 available there.
Fuel
The fuel bills are going to be the big ones, with around £100 for every vehicle that goes,
which means we need to reduce the overall number of vehicles as much as possible.
Each vehicle also will drink slightly different amounts and types of fuel, so the final bill
will be split between all those going on the trip.
An estimate of 750 miles per vehicle will be required to cover the whole trip. This no doubt will
be extended slightly, but shouldn't be much more providing things go to plan.
With three vehicles going I'm estimating a £300 fuel bill, which I'll inflate to £400 to give a
hopefully more realistic final figure.
Roughly Fuel will cost : £30 a head. Expect more.
Camping Costs
The cost of the campsites are:
Campsite 1 - Gairlochy
A Group rate of around £3.50 a head for 4 nights
Total : £14
Campsite 1 - Bught
Rates here are charged by the tent and are subject to individuals. The group will share
the cost of bringing the vehicles onto the site.
Estimate : For two people sharing a tent with a car, staying 2 nights.
Total : £13.20
Overall Camping costs : £27
Miscellaneous Costs
This is to cover all the bits and pieces you may need or want to take with you such as
extra chocolate bars, some fruit, or last minute bits of equipment.
Miscellaneous Stuff : £30
Overall Costs
| Food | £50 |
| Fuel | £30 |
| Camping | £27 |
| Miscellaneous | £30 |
| Overall | £137 |
Just to restress the point - these are estimates.
