Who are We?
Tynemouth Canoe & Waveski Club has been running for over 25 years, with it's
first incarnation as Killingworth Canoe Club in 1978. Since then there have
been a lot of changes in the way the club is run, and it now has more members
than ever before with around 60 regular attenders.
The equipment the club uses has also changed and there is now an ongoing
programme to improve the levels and quality of equipment. We have an extensive
range of boats to let almost anyone get themselves hooked on the sport.
The club is run by a committee which is elected by our own members.
The committee is responsible for making sure the club continues to be successful
by organising the training sessions at the pool, the river trips, the weekends
away, as well as numerous administrative tasks.
What's our Objective?
We want YOU to come and paddle... The club can give the opportunity to
almost anyone, and we mean anyone, to come and try their hand at paddling a
kayak. We have equipment that allows people to try the many different shapes
and sizes of boats before they make that big purchase of their very own. If you
want to learn to kayak, we will show you how. We have qualified coaches in the
club more than willing to give up some of their time to show you the strokes
and skills you need to become a better paddler.
Where are We?
The club is based at Tynemouth Swimming Pool. From here we have a lot of
paddling options available very nearby. There are many rivers, including the
River Tyne and it's tributaries, the River Wear, the River Wansbeck, as well
as lakes and the sea.
When do we meet?
We meet most Saturdays at Tynemouth Swimming Pool at 2.45pm for a training
session. This is indoors in a warm, friendly and safe environment. There are
trained lifeguards, coaches and first aiders at all of these sessions.
