For some strange reason this motif has caught my fancy. I worked it in
size 30 DMC Cebelia (what I had on hand in holiday colors)
I can see lots of possibilities in this motif.
I made a few changes as the motif would not lay flat when the directions were followed. (at least for me)
- = picot - - = long picot
Shuttle and Ball of thread ( I had red on the shuttle and green on ball )
Ring 3 ds - 3 ds - - 3 ds - 3 ds reverse
Chain 10 ds reverse
Ring 3ds ( join to last picot of last ring) 3 ds -- 3 ds - 3 ds reverse
Chain 10 ds reverse continue until there are 5 rings and chains
6 th Ring 3ds (join to last picot of last ring) 3 ds - - 3 ds (join to the
first picot of the first ring) 3 ds reverse
Chain as before, join chain to the base of the first ring.
Cut off ball thread.
Round 2:
Attach red ball thread
Chain 3 ds - 2 ds - 3 ds - 3 ds - 2 ds - 3 ds shuttle join to the next ring of round 1
Repeat around joining the last chain to the base of the first ring of round 1
The green chains of round 1 look like a ribbon traveling around the motif.
Variation
2 shuttles, red thread on one, green thread on the other. Attach threads
together and work in ends as you go along. With red thread on shuttle
Ring(red) 3 ds - 3 ds - - 3 ds - 3 ds reverse cross threads so that the red thread is on the left hand
Chain(red) 10 ds reverse, cross threads so red thread is used to make ring
Ring(red) 3 ds (join to last picot of last ring) 3 ds - - 3ds - 3ds reverse do not cross threads
Chain (green thread) 10 ds reverse and cross threads
Ring (green thread) 3 ds (join to last picot of last ring) 3 ds - - 3ds -
3 ds
Chain (green thread) 10 ds rev
Ring ( green thread) same as before
The pattern is worked the same as the first pattern except that you will
make 8 rings total. Alternating 2 red rings with 2 green rings
Round 2
You can follow the colors from round 1 or do this round all in one color.
I am a slow tatter, but it only takes me about a half hour to shoot out one of these motifs.
If you don't like doing the fold over join (last ring to first ring) change the pattern by joining the rings to one center motif. Example:
Ring 6 ds - - 6 ds ( all other rings will join this picot) The chain needs to be longer if you do the motif this way. Instead of 10 ds, you would probably need 15 ds (depending on the size thread you are using)
The motif on the far right is just a series of rings.
Have fun.
