Tatted Glass Disks

In this project I used glass disks. They are flat on one side and curved on the other, like glass paperweights. They are also used in flower arrangements. The disks are larger then the glass marbles and required changes in the pattern. For the red disk I used Mettler Quilting thread size 40/3 (slightly finer then size 80 tatting cotton) In the silver disk I used Mettler Silk thread size 50/3 and a strand of Krenik Blending Filament silver. The pattern is same, as the tatted baubles except each ring and chain are larger. Instead of 12 picot 12 for the rings the rings are now 15 Picot 15. The chains are 10 picot 10. The last disk I tatted I made 6 rings instead of 5, this change showed more tatting on the glass surface.
I discovered that all the glass disks and marbles are not quite the same size. So you may need to play around with the pattern to fit your glass beads. The flat disks make pretty pendants, too.
After I finished the tatting I soaked the tatted covered marble or disk in some hot water. This causes the tatting to shrink some and gives a nice tight finish. I forgot to mention that in the bauble directions.
Because the glass is curved on one side it magnifies the tatting on the back. In fact you could just tat one motif and glue it to the back of the glass disk. Use nice clear drying glue like Aileen's Jewel-it.

Have fun.
